Despite promoting their relationship as no laughing matter, Tolochko recently accepted an invitation to appear with Margo on the Russian TV show “Comedy Club.”

The husband-to-be shared images of the couple backstage, captioning the teaser post, “I won’t spoil it. You’ll find it out at the right time!”

All the public attention resulted in some insecurities, though.

A sex doll rental service that started in Calgary is opening a second location in Langley on Friday.

Randy Wiggins, one of three partners in Natrl, said the service is quite popular in Japan and is growing in Europe.

There is no storefront for the rental service. Everything is completed online. The company organizes pick-up and delivery.

The life-size dolls can be booked for two hours at a rate of $189, or overnight for $289.

People choose the doll they want to rent based on information on the website. The doll Minnie is described as a “petite,” 22-year-old from Vietnam, who entertains foreign tourists who visit the red-light district. Others include Anastasia, a blonde from Russian; Lara, a retired veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan; and a fantasy doll, Bella with pointy elf-like ears. For those interested in a male doll, there’s Cameron. The company plans to add more dolls in the near future.

The dolls are made from a material called thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), according to the company’s website. The material “has many properties in common with skin.”

“Things are going well in Calgary. We launched there in November. We always had expansion plans. We were always going to grow it,” he explained.

Once a doll is returned after booking, it is taken through a “rigorous multi-stage cleaning process, completed by trained and certified employees,” according to the company’s website.

An antibacterial soap and hydrogen peroxide are used on the interior and exterior of the doll. Afterward, the doll is examined with a black light and an ultraviolet light.

Wiggins will be running the Langley-based operation, while his son along with their other partner will continue in Calgary.

“We’ve also rented dolls in Calgary to people who have [a disability],” he said. “We rented a doll out to a [man] who had a stroke, so he’s got some limited mobility. He found that with the doll it helps his confidence.”

It is mostly men who use the rental service, but Wiggins said there have been some women and couples as well.

The age of those who have rented from Natrl range from 21 to 70.

“The demographics have surprised me,” he said.

the ‘social club’ in the middle of the sex doll controversy

The owner of The Studios, billed as a “fluid gender social lifestyle club,” said the club in central Las Vegas shouldn’t be confused with the sex doll operation temporarily located on the same property.

“We’ve been there six years, and we’ve never had a problem with anybody until today,” owner Joyce Judge said Tuesday.

That’s the day the Las Vegas Review-Journal published a story raising concerns that the property, located at 5150 S. Pecos Road, was being used as a sex club and sex doll brothel.

In a Jan. 31 email, Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said code enforcement had an open case on the property.


The case “was initiated by a complaint that the property owners are operating a business without a license,” he wrote. “No other complaints since 2017.”

County records show that The Studios was licensed in 2016 to operate as an educational institution under the name Fluid Lifestyles Learning Center, but no licensing records could be found for Las Vegas Sex Dolls Experience, which was operating at the same location.


Judge, 73, called The Studios a “social venue for all persuasions.” She did not deny that it operates as a sex club.

“If people have sex, they’re doing it in some of the private rooms,” she said.

Judge said Sex Dolls Experience rented retail space on the property from just before Christmas until the end of January.

“They indicated to me that they were selling the dolls,” she said.

On Tuesday, Judge said she was still waiting for the key to the space to be returned. She said she had not seen the website for Sex Dolls Experience until Tuesday.

According to the website, Sex Dolls Experience offers customers the chance to spend time interacting with sex dolls in a private room at an undisclosed hourly rate, prompting one licensed sex worker to describe it as a “sex doll brothel.”

Sex Dolls Experience declined to comment and made several changes to its website last week after being contacted by the Review-Journal.

At first, its website invited customers to “indulge in the ultimate sexual experience,” but the next day it stated that Sex Dolls Experience allows prospective buyers to “try” dolls before purchasing them.

It also added the statement, “We are not a brothel!!”

Judge said the more than 6,000-square-foot property, near Tropicana Avenue, is owned by a church. According to the Clark County assessor’s website, it is owned by Circles of Light Investment Fund LLC.

An online calendar for The Studios lists multiple events for couples in February that are free with a donation for the homeless.

Judge said the property also is used by film crews. Though an image on the website says “be a porn star,” she said she wasn’t aware of any pornography being filmed on-site.

She added that people park in front of her house when they use the club, telling the Journal: "I know they are not here to visit people in the neighborhood because you see them walking on up to the club".

And sex worker, Roxanne Price criticised the development, calling it a "slap in the face".

She said in an interview with AVN: "I love my job as a Vegas-area legal prostitute.


"I work hard to comply with all of the regulations in Nevada and I'm happy to travel to nearby rural areas in order to legally sell my sexual services. But this doll brothel is a slap in the face to me and the other hard-working sex workers that are trying to make our way in the world".

I spy on turtles to document and understand how they make more turtles. This may seem straightforward given the notorious sluggishness of the subjects. How hard can it be to spy on turtles?

It’s harder than it sounds, but also much more exciting. And thanks to affordable gadgets such as action cameras and 3D printers, it is getting easier — and more fun.
Turtle Preoccupations

In documentaries and popular media, turtles are often shown doing one of two things: lazily basking away summer days on a log or heart wrenchingly dodging cars to reach a safe place to bury their eggs. These noticeable behaviors are crucial to the baby-making business of turtles and we know a fair bit about both.

What we know less about are the intricacies of mating and courtship: what happens below the murky surface of lakes, rivers, ponds, swamps, marshes and other watery environments.

Cheap, submersible action cameras are changing the game. Animal ecologists have embraced these toys because they allow them to take prolonged peeks below the surface while minimally disturbing their favorite study subjects.

Three-dimensional printing is also opening exciting avenues for the study of animal behaviour in the field. We are now able to inexpensively and rapidly produce anatomically accurate animal decoys.
Watching Northern Map Turtles

We adopted these emerging tools to shed some light on the mating habits of the northern map turtle: a federally listed species at risk in Canada.

Most striking about map turtles is the huge difference in size between males and females. A large adult female can exceed 3,000 grams. A hunky male, on the other hand, will be lucky to tip the scale at 350 grams.

This asymmetry of size is the outcome of two facts. First, male map turtles don’t fight with one another, the key behaviour driving male burliness in animals. With many animals, when two males simultaneously encounter a receptive female, things get ugly if not lethally bloody. The bigger male typically comes out on top and passes his large male genes to the next generation. Not so in map turtles. The diminutive males can’t be bothered by same sex rivals.

The second fact is the correlation between a mom’s size and the size of her offspring. Large moms lay large eggs. Large eggs hatch large babies. Large babies have better odds of making it through the first few days of life than small ones. Natural selection has thus favoured large size in females.
Mate Choice

Whether males were aware of this was something we set to find out with action cams and 3D-printed turtle sex dolls of various sizes. Our prediction was straightforward. If a typical male encounters many females of varying sizes, which happens because of the unusual overwintering habits of this species, and cannot possibly mate with all of them, he should prefer to mate with the larger ones.

Turtles mate when they arrive at these communal sites in the fall and afterwards, they take a five-month long winter snooze (it looks like this).

When spring finally arrives, they mate again before taking off for the summer. Hundreds of turtles can use these communal grounds, making it inconceivable for any male to mate with all the females present. For a brief period, we have a bunch of libidinous turtles concentrated in one spot. This is a dream come true for a chelonian behavioural ecologist like myself.

To test our prediction, we 3D-printed decoys of female map turtles and placed them in pairs at two of these special meeting spots. The decoys were identical in every respect except for their size. One was about the size of an average female, and the second was slightly smaller than the largest female on record for our study population.

The incongruous pair was mounted on a rig fitted with an action camera. The whole assembly was dropped at bottom of the lake early in the morning and recovered at the end of the day. This was repeated for nine days with two pairs of decoys.

Big Findings

The response of wild males was clear: they preferred the larger female. The large decoys received nearly twice the number of male visits and five times more mating attempts than the smaller ones.

New Era of Turtle-Watching

Action cameras offer a window into the private, underwater lives of animals. With these devices and other technologies like 3D scanners and printers, we are able to not only test hypotheses and predictions, but we can also simply observe what animals do.

As we were sifting through videos from our experiments, we witnessed a number of phenomena we did not know were possible, including a female map turtle seemingly squeaking at a female decoy and a loon attacking a male decoy. These may just be anecdotes for now, but perhaps there is more to them.

The ubiquity and affordability of action cameras will surely yield many insightful observations about aquatic animals including turtles. Some may influence how we think about animal behavior, others may just be intriguing tidbits of a world largely unexplored.

Las Vegas residents are growing squeamish over the existence of a sex doll only social club that lets customers 'create and interact' an 'erotic atmosphere that is perfectly customized' to their needs.

For local Cyndi Robbins, the issue is with the company's location so close to a residential area.

'We've got apartments and houses on the other side of the road on the other side of Pecos, and we've got houses over here with children. It shouldn't be allowed, and I didn't think by law it was,' Robbins explained to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

A Clark County spokesman shared that The Studios is currently under investigation by Clark County on suspicion of operating a business without a license.

Gabriel is the creation of Sinthetics, an LA-based sex doll manufacturer who creates custom-made synthetic silicone men and women.

Whilst their male sex dolls are a recent addition, they note in the doco that in just the last few months, they have become equally as popular as their female dolls.

You heard it here first: male sex dolls are becoming A Thing.

These are highly personalized interpretations of the ideal man, so forget about a 'one size fits all' type of guy.

The head artist at Sinthetics, Matt Krivicke, says that all of their orders are extremely specific, with requests varying from skin color to the amount of pubic hair their doll should have.

"If someone specifies a nationality, I will either use pinker tones or browner tones (in the silicone)," says Krivicke, "It really depends. Each order is different, and each doll is different."

His co-owner Bronwen Keller agrees that it's the customization that attracts the female customer.

"People love dolls that they can design themselves, so they want to pick all the things. The boy next door face wins quite often. Light chest hair is pretty common. Most often with the males, they get quite a big bush which is interesting - more public hair on the male dolls seems to be a big thing at the moment..."

The 'Gabriel' doll is a remarkable feat of artistry. It looks real, astonishingly so.

Even though the computer screen, you can detect a strange softness in the specially-made silicone skin, mimicking the human touch. Tiny freckles, and eyelashes, and bellybuttons only serve to further confuse the senses.

It feels sensual, manly, human. And for around $13,500 - you would want to hope so!

But perhaps the weirdest part of the doll is his, er, bits.

Styled off a human cast, the genitals are shockingly realistic.

Your imagination is the only limit to what you can create: the penis converts from flaccid to erect, and you can opt for circumcised or uncircumcised, large or small, bent or straight, big balled or otherwise.

I know, I know. It's a lot to get your head around. (Poor choice of words?)

In the Vice documentary, host Karley Sciortino tries to find a female owner of a male sex doll to speak with her on camera.

As you can imagine, it wasn't easy - but they did find someone, and she is nothing like the socially awkward recluse you might have conjured up.

Jessica Ryan is an adult film star living in LA. Young, perky, and confident; there's no shame for her in owning a sex doll.

Ryan is in a long-distance relationship, you see, and says she struggled to find a casual sex partner. Apparently, her Gabriel doll was the perfect solution: he provides her sex and comfort, without the attachment of an actual human.

"It's so much easier than a Tinder date!" she giggles to the camera.

Reclining on her couch with Gabriel's arm casually draped over her leg, it's eerie to see how relaxed she is with both the doll and the situation. Indeed, it's not hard to imagine that sometime, in some future, this could even be kinda...normal.

The doco wraps up with Sciortino deciding she wants to give it a go. Yes, give it a go. 

So, without warning, we're watching her straddling Gabriel, kissing Gabriel, stroking Gabriel, and then -  oh my God - riding Gabriel, his plastic hands groping her breasts.

"It feels...absolutely indistinguishable from a real person," she pants to the camera, "except that I'm completely in control."

Well then.

In a world where relationships have been deconstructed and bartered off bit-by-bit, the male sex doll might actually one day find it's way into the mainstream market.

After all, if we can have an app to meet men for sex (Tinder), or a date (eHarmony), or to come and fix our broken lightbulb (Airtasker); why can't we outsource sexual pleasure, too?

There is something about the Gabriel doll, however, that feels bigger than just a sex toy.

(It is literally bigger than a sex toy, for starters, so good luck hiding that in your underwear drawer.)

But it's the emotional reaction you feel looking at such a lifelike figure that is both confusing and exciting.

Karley Sciortino's response at first 'meeting' her Gabriel is probably the most accurate in summarising the feeling:

"It feels weird because it is so lifelike but it enters this space which feels uncomfortable. It feels like a real person who can't respond to you."
